One of the key elements of making the correct offside call is the position of the attacker at the moment the balled is played to that player.

WHo can explain more specifically the effects of the offside rule when a player starts in an offside position and then runs back into an onside position and plays the ball if a) his team mate last played the ball and b) if the opposition last played the ball?
I think it is best explained by looking at what a player needs to do to put themselves back onside. The player can not come back from an offside position and play the ball until possession has been established with that player in an onside position. If the opposition last played the ball, the player coming back to get it is not offside.
If his team mate last tuched the ball and he gains an advantage from that posision, his/her is offside!
